Humphreys announces investment of over €2.1m in social housing in Cavan

December 6, 2019

Heather Humphreys, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, and Fine Gael TD for Cavan Monaghan, has announced that approval in principle has been granted for a new social housing development at The Gallops in Cavan Town. €2,112,634 has been allocated to the project.

Speaking on the matter Minister Humphreys said:

“I am delighted to announce that approval in principle has been granted for the construction of a social housing development at The Gallops in Cavan Town. The development will consist of 34 homes. Included in this will be 22 three-bedroom houses, 8 two-bedroom houses and 4 four-bedroom houses.

A budget of €2,112,634 has been set aside for the project, which will be delivered by Clúid Housing.

This is great news for the Cavan, and it’s very positive to see yet another investment in the county’s social housing stock. Fine Gael is committed to addressing the housing challenges in Ireland, including here in the local area. There is a lack of supply arising from years of recession, and it will take some time before we get things back to normal. However, the Government has a plan in place, and the figures tell us our plan is working.

This project would never have been possible without the commitment and collaboration of Cavan County Council, so I would like to take this opportunity to commend them on their wonderful work. I look forward to tracking the progress of these 34 new homes in Cavan.

In the meantime, I will continue to make the case to my colleague, Minister for Housing, Eoghan Murphy, for additional funding for housing here in the local area.”
